Why You Should Choose Group Coaching Over Group Therapy

Ever wondered what happens when you bring people together for support and growth? You might have heard of both group therapy and group coaching, and while they both involve a group setting, they have some key differences!

Think of it this way:

Group Therapy often focuses on exploring past issues, understanding emotional patterns, and providing a safe space for healing within a group dynamic. It's led by a licensed therapist who guides the group through processing challenges and supporting each other's mental and emotional well-being. The focus is often on therapeutic healing and addressing mental health concerns.

Group therapy can be a very powerful healing dynamic!

Group Coaching, on the other hand, is typically more forward-focused and action-oriented. It brings together individuals who share a common goal or are looking to achieve a specific outcome. A coach facilitates the group, helping members clarify their goals, brainstorm strategies, learn from each other's experiences, and stay accountable. It's about collective growth, skill-building, and moving towards a shared vision.

Group coaching can be a very powerful motivator for transformation!

Here are 5 awesome benefits to group coaching:

  1. Diverse Perspectives: You get to hear insights and approaches from a variety of people, which can spark new ideas you might not have considered on your own.

  2. Shared Accountability: Knowing you're on a journey with others who have similar goals can provide extra motivation and keep you committed to taking action.

  3. Community and Connection: Group coaching fosters a sense of belonging and support. You realize you're not alone in your challenges and can build valuable connections with others — connections that may last long after you finish the program.

  4. Cost-Effective: Group coaching is often more affordable than individual coaching, making it an accessible way to receive guidance and support.

  5. Learning from Others' Successes (and Setbacks!): Witnessing how others navigate their journeys – both their wins and their challenges – can provide valuable lessons and inspiration for your own path.

In my experience as a group facilitator, smaller groups are most effective. The magic number for me was 12 and under for everyone to gain maximum benefit.  If you’re looking for a group experience, keep that in mind when you are shopping for a good program.

If you are ready to break free from limiting beliefs, step into your authentic selves and thrive in your life and career, group coaching can offer a powerful and supportive environment. Group coaching can be an incredible way to connect with others on a similar path and create lasting change together.
